Tractor Rental Program Creates Opportunity for Taos Growers

In recent years, Taos County has seen a significant increase in food insecurity among residents due in part to a steep decline in farming and ranching. A group of land, water, and agriculture-focused organizations (including Taos Land Trust) formed De la Tierra collective in 2023 to collaborate on solutions to this problem. One of their ideas was to purchase a No-Till Seeder, a tractor with many regenerative farming benefits, to expand collective members’ access to specialized farming equipment and increase land restoration and sustainable food production. The group received a grant from the county but needed supplementary funds to purchase the necessary equipment. With support from LOR, Taos Land Trust purchased a used No-Till Native Grass Drill and developed a training program for young operators.
