The Nordic Way: Libby Kids Gain Access to More Cross Country Ski Opportunities

  • Local Champion: The Kootenai Cross-Country Ski Club
  • Date Funded: May 16, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $4,500

Access to winter sports like cross country skiing can be cost-prohibitive for many Libby families, keeping kids indoors in the winter months. It’s become a problem as kids are missing opportunities to exercise and to learn a hobby they could participate in the rest of their lives. A member of the Kootenai Cross Country Ski Club hoped to address this problem, but a lack of equipment limited the number of middle schoolers who could get involved. That’s where LOR came in, which helped the club purchase gently used skis, poles, and bindings for roughly 60 participants, which will allow more youngsters to hit the trails next winter.
