Sensory Gym Equipment Creates Therapy Space for Monte Vista Children

  • Local Champion: The Children's Specialty Clinic of the San Luis Valley INC
  • Date Funded: December 19, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $30,000

For many Monte Vista families, getting the right support for their children with developmental or sensory needs is difficult because specialized occupational therapy isn’t offered nearby. When an occupational therapist and pediatrician at the Children’s Specialty Clinic recognized that this gap left neurodivergent children without essential support, they reached out to LOR with an idea to create a dedicated therapy space.

LOR’s funding will help purchase sensory and gross motor equipment—including foam pits, platform swings, climbing panels, textured wall boards, and therapeutic mats—to establish the San Luis Valley’s first indoor sensory gym for children with disabilities. The new space will accommodate both scheduled therapy sessions and open-gym hours for families, helping children regulate their nervous systems, improve motor skills, and build confidence in an environment designed specifically for their needs.
