Rafting Trips Connect Questa’s Next Generation to Public Lands

  • Local Champion: Rivers & Birds, Inc.
  • Date Funded: May 8, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $7,500

Despite Questa’s proximity to the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, many children have never had the opportunity to visit the Monument or any of the expansive public lands surrounding their community. A staff member from Rivers & Birds, an environmental education nonprofit in the area, contacted LOR for help connecting more Taos County students to the natural world through outdoor adventures and workshops.

LOR’s support will fund transportation to the Rio Grande and professional rafting guides who will facilitate floats and support culturally relevant lessons on watershed issues, local wildlife, and environmental stewardship for more than 160 Questa Elementary School students.
