Provider Certification Expands Access to DOT Physicals in Taos County

  • Local Champion: Taos Locals
  • Date Funded: September 29, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $7,200

Taos County has no medical providers certified to conduct the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examinations required for first responders, school bus drivers, truckers, and other CDL holders—forcing emergency personnel to travel to Santa Fe, Albuquerque, or farther and taking them away from already short-staffed departments for much of a workday. Recognizing this gap, local firefighters came up with a solution: train and certify three Taos County medical providers to conduct the required exams locally. LOR funding will help Mobile Medical cover training and certification costs for each provider—making DOT physicals available in Taos County two to three days per month. This investment will reduce travel and time away from work for more than 75 emergency personnel while expanding access for school bus drivers, truckers, and other CDL holders countywide.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Downtown Taos.
