No More 360-Mile Trips for Treatment for Monte Vista’s Neurodiverse Children

  • Local Champion: The Childrens Specialty Clinic of the San Luis Valley INC
  • Date Funded: March 6, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $29,950

There is currently no clinic in Monte Vista (nor the entire San Luis Valley) that offers the menu of specialized services, including outdoor therapy spaces, that families of children with neurodevelopmental disorders need. To access all of these services, they must travel at least 360 miles round trip. Recognizing this gap, one local physician established a nonprofit pediatric clinic in Monte Vista to offer most of these services. To best serve patients, though, the clinic needs an outdoor therapy space as this allows the children to enhance their problem-solving skills and physical development in a safe space. Dr. Mikaila Pence reached out to LOR for help. LOR’s funding will support with the purchase and installation of equipment to crease a safe, secure outdoor therapy space connected to the Children’s Specialty Clinic of the San Luis Valley, serving neurodevelopmentally diverse children and their families.
