New Tumbling Facility Expands Youth Recreation Options in Taos

  • Local Champion: Taos Youth Basketball League
  • Date Funded: December 5, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $26,882

Taos has been without a dedicated tumbling or gymnastics facility for many years, requiring families to travel for training and placing extra demand on shared school gym space. Without nearby options for this type of recreation, many children miss out on structured physical activities that build confidence and skills.

To help fill this long-standing gap in youth recreation, a group of parents and volunteer coaches came together with a solution and reached out to LOR. Their idea? Secure a building and equip it as Taos’ first dedicated tumbling and gymnastics facility since the last gym closed more than a decade ago.

With support from LOR, Taos Xtreme Cheer will purchase professional-grade equipment—including a 20-foot tumble track and spring floor system—to outfit the new facility. The space will initially serve approximately 120–140 youth, with volunteer coaches offering programming for toddler tumbling, beginner gymnastics, school teams, and club teams. The gym will operate on a sliding fee scale to ensure accessibility, with many groups able to use the space at little or no cost.

This new community asset will expand healthy activity options for Taos families, provide year-round indoor recreation close to home, and ease pressure on overcrowded school facilities.
