New Legal Toolkit Empowers Community-Led Projects in Taos

  • Local Champion: Channel72
  • Date Funded: November 21, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $5,700

Taos community members often lack clear guidance and support when managing charitable projects—whether short-term efforts or initiatives that might eventually grow into nonprofits. Without accessible information on liability, compliance, and financial responsibilities, many residents feel unsure about how to pursue community-benefit work responsibly, especially following the loss of local fiscal sponsorship options.

To help address this gap, leadership from Channel72 proposed a solution and reached out to LOR: hire an attorney to develop clear, accessible onboarding documents that would lay the groundwork for supporting fiscally sponsored projects in the community.

With support from LOR, Channel72 will contract an attorney to create a comprehensive onboarding packet outlining liability, compliance, financial responsibilities, and project expectations for community-led charitable efforts. The materials will be reviewed by 2–3 community members with experience in grassroots initiatives to ensure they are easy to understand and offer actionable guidance.

The onboarding documents will be maintained and updated annually to reflect evolving legal requirements, establishing sustainable infrastructure that helps more residents confidently launch and manage charitable projects in Taos.
