New Batteries Keep Life-Saving Equipment Ready in Lander

  • Local Champion: City of Lander
  • Date Funded: January 17, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $2,208

In Lander, Wyoming, ambulance response times can stretch to 45 minutes given how large the county is and because there are only five ambulances to cover it. That means Lander police officers are often first on scene during medical emergencies. So a few years ago, the Lander Police Department purchased 12 AEDs as a precaution, but today the life-saving tools are regularly being used—as often as once a week at times. As a result of that frequent use, the AEDs’ batteries are running low, so police staff reached out to LOR with a simple solution: replace the batters. LOR’s funding will help purchase 12 new battery-and-pad sets for police vehicle AEDs, ensuring these vital devices remain ready for emergency use over the next five to six years.
