“Moving Stations” Promote Creativity and Independence at Libby Elementary

  • Local Champion: Libby K-12 Schools
  • Date Funded: July 3, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,735

Kids need to move. Parents know it. Teachers know it. And research increasingly shows it. Since the coronavirus pandemic, Libby Elementary’s third grade teachers have been wrestling with many students’ need to move during classroom lessons. They found research that suggested “moving stations” that give students more independence could improve cognitive functioning, moderate disruptive behaviors, and help classroom management. The problem? Libby Elementary didn’t have the budget to try the new approach. So one third grade teacher reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help Libby Elementary create moving stations complete with lap desks, stools, math card holders, and other classroom supplies. If successful, Libby Public Schools will consider expanding the approach to other grade levels to improve student engagement and learning.
