Lander Youth Gain Access to Affordable Group Guitar and Fiddle Lessons

  • Local Champion: Lander local
  • Date Funded: September 27, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $4,800

Many Lander youth have expressed an interest in learning guitar and fiddle. And sometimes, a teacher will move to town and offer lessons, but just as often the teacher will move away, so there are rarely enough teachers for the level of interest. Seeing an opportunity to stoke young people’s musical interest, a local volunteer came up with the idea of group classes that could accommodate up to 12 students at a time. The every other week classes would be taught by a well-known local musician for a nominal fee ($10 per class) and students would be able to bring their instruments home in between so they can practice. All that was required to launch this idea were the instruments. LOR’s funding will help with the purchase of six guitars and six fiddles to help get the sound of music going in Lander.

This project is fiscally sponsored by the Lander Community Foundation
