Instrument Repairs Open School Band to More Libby Students

  • Local Champion: Libby K-12 Schools
  • Date Funded: July 15, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,750

Libby’s school band is a proud community tradition, sending musicians to college marching bands across the state. But many Libby students miss out on the opportunity because the cost of renting or purchasing an instrument is too high (rent for an instrument generally starts at $40/month and the full cost of an instrument is usually over $1000). To help more kids join band, parents with the Libby Elementary Schools Parent Council spearheaded a local donation campaign, collecting almost two dozen used instruments for Libby Public Schools. Some of those instruments needed repair, so one dedicated grandmother set out to find a way to recondition the instruments and purchase any replacements. That’s when she reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help Libby Public Schools recondition two flutes, three clarinets, one tuba, and one baritone. It will also help the district purchase new instruments so that any student interested in band can participate.
