Going the Distance: Gas Cards Help Therapy Clients Access Services in Cortez

  • Local Champion: A Cortez local

In rural communities, the cost of mental health treatment can be a significant barrier. Beyond the immediate bill, residents often have to pay for travel and child care just to attend an appointment or group therapy session. One Cortez mental health provider saw many of her clients struggling to access the support they needed because transportation was an issue. She found a simple but impactful solution: gas cards. LOR’s funding supported the purchase of 150 $15 gas cards. The provider will distribute the cards to clients, allowing them to regularly attend mental health appointments, job interviews, and other much-needed services.

This project was fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
