E-Bikes for Seniors Reduce Transportation Barriers in Cortez

  • Local Champion: 4CORE
  • Date Funded: July 27, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $28,242

Many seniors in Cortez, especially those living on fixed incomes, have few transportation options. Some do not drive, and others can’t afford e-bikes that seniors might easily ride around town. It’s a growing problem as many folks of this generation can’t access community events, meetings, and other opportunities to engage. 4CORE, a regional nonprofit which has been implementing mobility solutions in Cortez, recently deployed a fleet of e-bikes for seniors in the community, but demand far exceeded supply. Staff from the organization recently reached out to LOR to see if the foundation could help meet the growing need. With LOR’s help, 4CORE was able to purchase eight new e-bikes, three e-trikes, as well as helmets, gloves, and other equipment.
