Drip Irrigation Conserves Water and Improves Learning at a Taos Student Greenhouse

  • Local Champion: Taos Integrated School of the Arts
  • Date Funded: February 28, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $9,895

Students at the Taos Integrated School of the Arts currently haul buckets of water to manually irrigate their school greenhouse, resulting in significant water waste. At the same time, the greenhouse is poorly vented, increasing evapotranspiration from the soil and plants and creating an uncomfortable learning environment for students. One teacher at the school identified improvements to make the space more sustainable and suitable for year-round learning. In need of support, she reached out to LOR with her ideas. LOR’s funding will help Taos Integrated School of the Arts purchase a drip irrigation system, shade cloth, and ventilation fans, creating a water-efficient growing space where students can learn essential skills while conserving one of the Taos’ most precious resources.
