Camping Equipment Opens Outdoor Recovery Experience for Lander Families

  • Local Champion: Wind River Family and Community Health Care
  • Date Funded: April 30, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $3,573

For many Lander residents in recovery, access to outdoor activities plays a critical role in healing, but without proper equipment, enjoying the surrounding natural landscape can be difficult. After organizing a pilot camping trip that faced challenges from wind and cold temperatures, a certified peer specialist at White Buffalo Recovery Center saw how valuable—yet difficult—these experiences were for clients and their families. When she recognized that sustainable equipment was the missing piece, she reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help purchase durable camping gear, including a wind-resistant wall tent, chairs, fishing equipment, and lanterns—creating the foundation for an annual sober camping tradition at Worthen Reservoir. This initiative gives up to 60 participants from Lander’s recovery community a safe outdoor space to rebuild family relationships, enjoy storytelling and fishing, and experience the healing power of nature without the barriers that previously kept them indoors.
