AAU Volleyball Club Meets Growing Demand for Girls’ Sports in Lander

  • Local Champion: Lander Volleyball Club
  • Date Funded: January 21, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $6,932

In Lander, interest in volleyball among girls has grown so dramatically that it overwhelmed the Riverton club where many were playing—so many Lander athletes joined that they outnumbered Riverton players and were asked to find their own program. After a successful LOR-funded elementary volleyball program in 2024 sparked exponential growth, two volleyball enthusiasts had an idea to launch a dedicated Lander AAU club that could serve girls of all ages for several months each year. With the five-month club season starting in January and little time for fundraising, they needed immediate support to establish the organization and cover first-year essentials. The club will become a 501(c)(3), allowing families to sustain it long-term through benefit dinners, concessions work, and other fundraising—activities these committed athletes have successfully done before. LOR’s funding helped cover AAU and Wyoming league fees, 501(c)(3) filing, storage rental, essential equipment including volleyballs and carts, uniforms, travel bags, and training supplies like yoga balls and cones, giving Lander’s volleyball-loving girls a local home to develop their skills and leadership.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Lander Community Foundation.
