A Timing System Helps Libby Grow Its Races — and Local Economy

  • Local Champion: Libby K-12 Schools
  • Date Funded: July 25, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $29,255

To race, you at least need a start line, a finish line, and a timer. In the past, Libby has had the first two, but the community has lacked an official timing system. It’s been a problem for local school teams, but it’s also proved a problem for the broader community — without an accurate timer, Libby has been unable expand and add local races, limiting new opportunities for economic growth. One Libby Public Schools teacher and the district’s athletic director had the idea to buy a digital timing system similar those used for the U.S. Olympic trials and Tour de France. But with a substantial price tag, they needed some help, so they reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help Libby Public Schools purchase a FinishLynx wireless timing system complete with a photo finish. LOR’s funding will also support 15 hours of training for the school district and the many community groups and local charities that will now be able to use the system to host races in Libby.
