A Taos Pueblo Music Program Helps Those in Recovery Heal

  • Local Champion: Taos Pueblo Health and Community Services
  • Date Funded: June 30, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $10,166

In 2019, half of the deaths on the Taos Pueblo were related to alcohol abuse. In response,  Recovery Works, an intensive outpatient program that assists individuals seeking support for recovery from substance abuse/misuse and mental health, was born. One Recovery Works volunteers identified a need for incorporating music therapy into the program, as participants had expressed an interest in learning to play as part of their way to heal by focusing their attention on another hobby. Problem was they needed instruments to practice on. LOR’s funding will support the purchase of musical instruments and equipment to launch musical programs for those in recovery and other community members.

This project was fiscally sponsored by the Taos Community Foundation
