A Softball Field Delivers Athletic and Economic Opportunity in Libby

  • Local Champion: Libby K-12 Schools
  • Date Funded: March 7, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $25,020

Libby has no softball field. Without a dedicated home, local teams end up practicing on soccer grounds, baseball diamonds, and even little league fields. It’s a stark contrast to Libby’s Lee Gehring Field, which not only supports local baseball teams but hosts regional tournaments attracting teams from across the U.S. and Canada. A group of locals and community leaders shared their idea with LOR to create a community softball field, backed by more than $32,000 in local donations and a commitment from Libby Public Schools to use an empty school-owned lot. LOR’s funding will support the purchase of building materials, including concrete and fencing, to help make Libby’s softball field a reality. Once complete, the field will serve as a host site for multiple regional tournaments, boosting the local economy while also supporting community events.
