A New Van Makes Transporting Lander’s Older Adults Easier

  • Local Champion: Westward Heights Care Center
  • Date Funded: August 13, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $30,000

At any given time, Westward Heights Care Center, a short-term and long-term rehabilitation center for seniors in Lander, Wyoming, supports around 50 residents. These are older residents who might be rotating through short-term rehab as well as long-term care residents who need ongoing care, so a significant portion of Lander’s older adults pass through the center’s doors at some point. Westward Heights’ residents need regular transportation to medical appointments, errands, and activities. Problem is, the center’s van is on its last legs and can currently only transport one person at a time. The obvious solution: a new van. So the center’s staff reached out to LOR for help. LOR’s funding will support the purchase of a reliable van that can carry groups of patients instead of just one at a time.
