A Local Film Shares the Important Genizaro History in Taos

  • Local Champion: A Taos resident
  • Date Funded: September 22, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $7,700

Many Taos students and community members do not have local, historic knowledge about the hispanic and native cultures of Taos. To address that problem, one Taos resident has been hoping to create an educational event complete with a film screening and a panel of historians specifically to talk about the Genizaro population (indigenous captives sold into Spanish servitude). Funding from the LOR Foundation was used to hire a video editor to help make the film and a graphic designer to make ads. Funding was also used to secure event space and pay the panelists a stipend, helping to broaden cultural awareness in northern New Mexico.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Taos MainStreet
