A Free-To-Use Stage at a Historic Taos Property Helps Connect Community

  • Local Champion: Taos Historic Museums
  • Date Funded: June 9, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $5,000

Taos has few free venues for showcasing the community’s rich cultural and artistic scene and hosting community events. The historic Martinez Hacienda, built in 1804 and home to an annual trade fair since the 1800s, presents one promising option; problem is, it has no stage. Recognizing the possibility, staff at Taos Historic Museums reached to LOR with the idea to build a stage at the hacienda, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, that would be free to use for community event for educational or cultural purposes. LOR’s funding will help cover the cost of materials and labors to construct the stage.
