Lander Youth Learn to Sew With Free Classes From a Local Volunteer

  • Local Champion: Project Carpe Diem
  • Date Funded: September 27, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $900

When a Lander seamstress of more than five decades kept getting requests to host sewing lessons for young people, she wanted to help. Working with Project Carpe Diem, the local volunteer developed a plan: Offer free sewing lessons for Lander youth that start with the basics and build in complexity, so students walk away with real life skills. They just needed a little help to get it off the ground. LOR’s funding will help with the purchase of six sewing machines and supplies that can be used in weekly classes held at the Learning Resources Library. Classes will be targeted for youth, but open to all.
