Nutritious Lunches Fuel Future Medical Professionals in Taos

The Health Careers Academy is an intensive multi-week summer program hosted by the UNM School of Medicine. It integrates a rigorous academic curriculum, test preparation, and health science career exploration to equip students with foundational skills in the medical field. The academy experience is free for all accepted juniors and seniors, and the Health Sciences Center provides a stipend at the end of the two-week program to offset the financial sacrifices many students (and their families) make to participate.

The Health Careers Academy is produced through grant funding each year, but that support does not cover the cost of student meals, which can create another financial challenge for low-income students. So, a Student Success Specialist from the University of New Mexico reached out with a solution: purchase lunch for all participants at the UNM Taos program site. LOR’s support covered the cost of bringing in 64 locally sourced meals over eight days and helped fuel the education and well-being of some of Taos’ most ambitious learners.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Downtown Taos.
