Group Piano Lessons Make Music Education Accessible in Lander

  • Local Champion: Lander Art Center
  • Date Funded: July 26, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,503

For Lander residents of all ages who want to take piano lessons, the cost, lack of instructors, and inflexible class times all present barriers that keep people from learning to play. One local who’s been teaching piano for more than 20 years came up with a solution and reached out to LOR: Launch a piano lab where teachers can teach multiple students at once. The instructor will coordinate with the Lander Art Center (LAC) to host two to three classes and the space will also serve as a practice area for students who don’t have keyboards at home. Lessons through the lab will cost about half of what a typical lesson does, and the LAC will help deploy vouchers for students needing financial assistance. LOR’s support will provide funding for six digital pianos as well as vouchers for those who need financial assistance.
