Free School Supplies Offer Financial Relief for Monte Vista Families

  • Local Champion: City of Monte Vista
  • Date Funded: August 5, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $7,524

As household expenses continue to rise, a growing number of families in Monte Vista face hard choices when it comes to covering the cost of their students’ school supply lists. While several groups in Alamosa host back-to-school drives, many needy families cannot access that support due to transportation limitations. So, a community volunteer approached LOR with an idea: purchase backpacks, fill them with school supplies, and distribute them at a central location in Monte Vista.

LOR’s funding will purchase backpacks and school supplies for 120 students, promote awareness of the project, and provide refreshments for everyone who attends the distribution event.
