In 2013, Bike Walk Montana launched Montana Trails Rx, a program to increase physical activity among Montanans and ultimately reduce obesity and chronic disease rates. Montana Trails Rx brings together local medical clinics and parks departments to help health care providers issue prescriptions for walking, running, biking, or other activities on local trails. Bike Walk Montana works closely with the Recreational Trails Program of Montana State Parks to identify trails, develop maps and create walking guides for providers to use with their patients. “Our Trails Rx programs in Missoula, Helena, and Polson have been extremely successful. Thanks to the health care providers who’ve championed this innovative work, the program has expanded to new communities including Bozeman, Dillon and Miles City,” said Melinda Barnes, Executive Director of Bike Walk Montana.
