Our Impact

At LOR, our goal isn’t to speak for the people of the rural West. It’s not to give voice to people who aren’t usually heard. It’s to let those people speak for themselves and to connect them with people who face similar challenges.

Residents of the rural West are a tenacious bunch. They endure harsh climates, the cycles of boom-and-bust, and LOR understands why people are rural by choice. LOR’s hope is to make that choice easier.

LOR recognizes that small towns have strong values. Residents know when something works for them. What they’re asking for are the tools and support to build stronger communities for themselves. This means LOR’s role goes well beyond just being a funder.

It means providing the right expertise and making the right connections. It means collaborating with other funding sources to increase overall investment in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, and Wyoming communities.

In practice, that means helping communities find the resources and expertise to develop solutions to pressing challenges. And we find ways to share these solutions with other communities.

Together, with communities, we revitalize main streets, create more opportunities for access to the outdoors and recreation, protect clean water supplies, preserve agricultural land and open space, and build vibrant economies.
