We collaborate with small towns in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico and Wyoming to create well-planned and thriving downtowns, keep water sources clean, enhance recreation opportunities, and protect the places communities love.
We focus on small rural towns that are surrounded by or near public lands. We do not fund projects in highly urban areas and their suburban counterparts, tribal lands, or interstate corridors.
We recognize that we can only achieve our goals in authentic partnership with others. Our work is strengthened when we exchange best practices, knowledge, and experience with our partners to realize our common objectives.
“I’ve been working on forest management and community forest issues in the West for more than 20 years. I’ve never seen a foundation like the LOR Foundation that has such a strong emphasis on community well-being and livability.” – Laura McCarthy, Director of Conservation Programs, The Nature Conservancy – New Mexico
